EXPLORATION

HILLFIRE EDUCATION

Make the most of your journey.

Whether you're new to medical cannabis or more experienced, understanding terpenes and cannabinoids helps you make informed choices. Terpenes are what drive the distinct smells and flavors of medical cannabis and play a critical role in how different strains are experienced. Cannabinoids are the chemical compounds secreted by medical cannabis flowers that provide relief to an array of symptoms. Cannabinoids work by imitating compounds our bodies naturally produce, called endocannabinoid, which activate to maintain internal stability and health.

Many factors play a role in how each person responds to medical cannabis, including: activity levels, overall health, life experience, past medications, age, hormones, and hydration. Finding the right products for you often requires some personal exploration and taking careful notice of how your body responds.

TERPENES 101

Terpenes are aromatic oils produced in medical cannabis trichomes that influence the plant’s scent and effects. Depending on how they interact with receptors, terpenes can promote relaxation, stimulation, or sedation.

ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM 101

Medical cannabis interacts with the Endocannabinoid System, a molecular system that the body uses to help maintain homeostasis - an internal mechanism that provides stability, balance, or equilibrium within a cell or the body.
